SCRITCHFIELD STRONG

On March 21, 2017, Garrett and Kayla Scritchfield welcomed their beautiful daughter Ava Rhea into the world. Shortly after her arrival, it was discovered that Ava had a serious heart problem that required immediate surgery. With a major setback, Ava's surgery was delayed until April 10th when her team of doctor's felt she was strong enough for open heart surgery. Garrett or Kayla never left her side. It was an extremely difficult time for the family, as they were separated from 4 year old daughter Maleah for long periods of time. Ava proved to be a strong warrior and was released from the hospital on April 22 with many medications, instructions, weight checks and specialist visits scheduled. Things seemed to be settling down a bit and Garrett was able to go back to work for the last few weeks. The family was seen around town at a few functions, trying to establish a new norm with a medically fragile child. On June 4th, the family was headed towards Lake Kanopolis and tragically were involved in a head on collision. Garrett, Kayla and Meleah all have injuries, Garrett's being the most extensive. Baby Ava was miraculously not injured. Meleah suffered from cuts and bruises, a broken arm and leg. Kayla suffered from a severe concussion, a dislocated hip with torn tendons, cuts and bruises. Garrett is in critical condition with many life threatening injuries ranging from internal injuries, fractures in his neck and spine, a broken sternum, lung injuries and a broken leg. He has a long and extensive road of recovery in front of him. Both extended families are here and helping in every way possible. Kayla is splitting her time between the girls and being at her husband's side. Ava still has many medical needs and is breastfed. We've been asked by friends and family from both near and a far as to how to help. Here are 4 suggestions listed below. 1. Pray! Pray for this family. Pray for their community. Pray for healing and strength for both physical and emotional damage and injuries. 2. Please consider making a donation to help ease some of this young families financial burden. 3. Please share this page with your friends, family, work places and churches. Ask if they would consider helping in this tangible way. 4. Love your loved one's. Life is short, accidents happen. Find ways to show someone you care. Help ease another's burden. Thank you! SCRITCHFIELD STRONG
