Hello family and friends:
As most of you all know, I am embarking on a life-changing journey this upcoming November by running for Miss Ohio, USA and am currently serving my community as Miss Cincinnati, USA 2017. Honestly, this competition isn’t even something that I would normally do. Last year, I watched a good friend of mine compete in the Miss USA pageant as she represented the state of Georgia and decided that I wanted to run – but not for the reasons that you may think. I’ve watched how social media, friends, and family alike have engaged with the winners of these “beauty” pageants and decided that it’s time that beauty be introduced to this type of platform in a different light. I am by no means a model – by size or by look – and I don’t believe that my success will come from being the best walker or having the best portfolio. I believe that I can be successful because I will bring a sense of unconventionality to the competition.
I have previous pageant experience, as I competed in UC’s Kuamka pageant in 2015, and also was the recipient of “Miss Congeniality” in the 2016 Miss Black and Gold Pageant hosted by the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. I view being successful in pageantry as a way to further voice and implement my platform -- “Normalizing Mental Health”. I am currently in the works of starting my own non-profit organization that will raise awareness for mental health issues in the African American Community. As a woman of color that battles depression and anxiety every day, I think my transparency is important to the growth of those around me, and I’m aiming to further be an active part of the de-stigmatization of people with mental health issues.
As a sponsor, you would be helping to offset the costs of, oh gosh, you name it - Ridiculous wardrobe and hair requirements, pageant entry, mandatory ad fees, make-up, and so much more. This opportunity means the world to me, and it also means the world to me to have such an amazing support system that will push me towards my dreams even if I want to enter a $2500 competition (lol).
