Declan's Fight

On February 23, 2017, our beautiful son, Declan Nikolas Albert, was born: 5 lbs 8 oz with beautiful sea blue eyes and a smile to die for. The addition of this miracle brought tremendous love to our family, including proud big brother, Jaxon.
When he was 2 weeks old, we first noticed that he wasn't developing appropriately. He was diagnosed with reflux, but his health began to decline. At 6 weeks of age, Declan was hospitalized for reflux and GERD. He refused to eat and began vomiting green bile. During that time, he was prescribed Zantac and Prevacid and we were sent home.
Unfortunately, we were only home for 3 days before Declan began to cough. The day before Easter, he continued to decline and was readmitted and for RSV and Influenza A. He was put on a NG tube in order to provide nutrition.
We worked with doctors from all different fields to help diagnose his underlying issues, but found no answers. So, after 12 excruciating long days, he was released on the NG tube.Once home, he began to heal and get stronger. For the very first time, he began to coo and smile. He started to recognize my voice. Life was good and we all thought we had made progress. Sadly, 3 weeks later (last Sunday) to be exact, Declan started to cough again. He refused to eat. He was rushed to the ER on Thursday June 2nd with the inability to breathe on his own. He was diagnosed with fluid around his heart and in his lungs.
The doctors at our current hospital have decided that there is nothing else they can do for him there, and have decided to transfer us to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he can obtain the BEST available specialty care.
It has taken valiant efforts from friends and family near and far to make sure that our sweet boy and his darling older brother continue to be loved and well cared for. We are eternally grateful for that. Yet, this move creates more burdens: both financial and emotional. Therefore, we created this page to help us along this journey.
We have to believe that there is hope. We have to believe that our sweet baby boy will be Ok.
