Hope for Hannah

Donation protected
12 year old Hannah is the daughter of Will & Jackie Stanley granddaughter of Jack & Kathy Alexander and John & Debbie Stanley, Patty Elliott & Ted Ebert, & Susan McCarthy. She is a bright, intelligent, out going little girl often seen playing with her 3 siblings (Mallaigh, Alex, & Emma) or down at the local pet shop helping customers, working with the animals, and carrying out food for people.... always with a smile on her face.
Hannahs family noticed her belly started to become larger over a few days and continually asked Hannah does your belly hurt? "Nope" was her constant reply. Saturday morning Hannah couldn't eat, which anyone that knows Hannah knows how much she loves her food. She was taken into the Doctors office where they referred her to the E.R.  After cat scans and lab work the Dr came and got Hannahs mom and told her Hannah had a large amount of fluid in her abdominal cavity and a very large mass on her right ovary.  They were immediately sent up to Rapid City where they were met by an oncologist that whisked Hannah into surgery. During the 5 hour surgery they discovered Hannah had a tumor larger than a grapefruit on her right ovary that had ruptured and was filling her little body with fluid.  The oncologist removed 42 pound of fluid from her abdominal cavity, her right ovary and falopian tube, omentum and lymph nodes. She also took biopsies of her other organs to send off to pathology. Her family is now patiently waiting for results from Mayo after the oncologist found some additional cells and markers from the biopsies she did not like the looks of. Hannah has been in good spirits through out, a constant smile on her face.
Hannahs cancer has been diagnosed as a very rare form of juvenile granulosa cell cancer that affects 2 out of every million cancer patients and typically affects older women... not 12 year old little girls.
Hannahs family knows this is going to require a lot of treatment over the course of the next several years, including regular and frequent pet scans and labs because of the fast growing nature of her disease.  At this time they do not have insurance to carry these costs.  We are reaching out to family and friends to help this loved family as they begin their journey to heal Hannah.... our little ray of sunshine.
