Ivan's Cancer Odyssey

When I survived cancer 22 years ago, I was confident I could beat it a second time...after all, I have much more to fight for this time - two 12 year-old children, a loving wife, not to mention faithful friends and co-workers pulling for me. I was diagnosed with a very aggressive type of non-Hodgkin's in December. The first line of standard Chemo started working quickly but the cancer adapted and we had to switch to Plan B in February. Unfortunately, the cancer continued to spread, meaning I was no longer a candidate for High Dose Chemo and Stem Cell Transplant. A third line "standard of care" exists, but it is far more toxic and the odds of success given the "Chemo-resistant" cancer are dismal. We need a more innovative solution that perhaps is not available in Ontario. We are seeking 'second' opinions from world renowned cancer centres in New York and are hopeful that we can get access to some of the newer Immunotherapy treatments while pursuing non-toxic natural remedies at home. An oncology consult in New York starts at $2500 and, depending on the recommended treatment, the medication costs start in the tens of $1000's. We can use all the help we can get and appreciate anything people have to offer. Thank you for your support.
