Greetings!
I'm here to hopefully raise monies for my first-ever mission trip outside of the United States to Haiti, from January 25 through February 3, 2014. My participation--including travel expenses & associated costs--will be funded entirely by donations provided by you. The church in which I was raised"”Anne Ashley U.M. Church, in Munhall, Pennsylvania"”has been a partner with the Vine Ministry in Haiti (www.vineministry.org, affiliated with Vine Evangelical Baptist Church in Port-au-Prince) for more than 35 years. Since 2001, members of its congregation have been traveling to Haiti to assist the Vine Ministry. In addition to Anne Ashley Church, Trinity U.M. Church in Indiana, PA, partnered with the Vine Ministry in recent years, and members of its congregation now also travel to Haiti.
I'm excited, and, honestly, nervous about the trip. Excited for the opportunity to serve in whatever way is needed, and nervous, having never been to Haiti or on a mission trip outside of the United States. Experience has proven, however, that any time I've been led to do something beyond my routine or comfort zone, vital wisdom is gained, important observances are made, and spiritual growth results. I am eager to make a connection with the people of Vine Church and with the communities in need that it serves. Possible 2014 mission trip projects may involve working on two heavily damaged sister churches employing the ministry of concrete; assisting in a medical clinic; helping with bible school; and/or planting trees and other forestry work.
As a writer who tinkers with photography, I plan to also record as much as I can about the people we encounter and the overall experience. In doing so, my hope is that greater awareness is created about the challenges the Haitian people face on a daily basis. Any assistance you feel led to donate would be most appreciated, in addition to your ongoing prayers.
