Help Caleb Breathe

Donation protected
My name is Linda Howard. My youngest son Caleb is 18 and has Down Syndrome and has had asthma since he was 2 months old. He has a history of pneumonias requiring hospitalization. Caleb is a force of nature! He is bright and funny and makes the world a better place. He cares deeply for his family, friends and teachers. He loves music, singing and dancing. He was admitted to the hospital on May 1, 2017 for pneumonia. That night they told me that the had to be intubated and placed on a ventilator or he would not make it through the night. Later that week they decided that he needed to be transferred to Baylor Medical Center in downtown Dallas to under go a type of treatment called ECMO. It is a bypass system to oxygenate his blood kind of like dialysis cleans blood for the liver. He is making progress slowly. He has been in ICU for 5 weeks now. This is the first family crisis the children (Caleb has two older siblings Elizabeth and Sam) and I have had to face since my husband passed away in 2016. When he was alive we had two jobs, two insurances and we made it through these hospitalizations just fine. Even though I work for an awesome company and qualify for FMLA there is no pay check coming in and I have to be here with him because he is so fragile. I have insurance and it will pay the majority of the hospital bills but with all these cutting edge treatments the bill already has passed the $250,000 mark. My portion is still impressive. We also have to pay rent and all the other day to day expenses that are unavoidable. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Thank you for helping Caleb breathe.
