Poverty Relief in Papua New Guinea

My Story

After spending years in addiction I entered the One80tc drug rehabilitation program in 2009, and little did I know but later that same year I would find God. One of the first people I met there was Robin Kawaipa, a case worker and a man of God who inspired me with his vision to change Papua New Guinea. In 2012 my bags were packed and I was on the plane to PNG !! It was only a couple of days into the trip and I knew that this trip wouldnt be my last (far from it, im planning to move their with my wife and kids). Since that first trip several more have followed. I have been to two of the major cities but have spent most of my time in Port Moresby. The work that needs to be done in Port Moresby can be overwhelming, and if you say the problem is to big, my response is that my God is bigger tha any problem that we face. Robin Kawaipa founded PNG EncounterFirst in 2010 starting it as an annual conference but since then many more projects have taken place such as the city clean up day, freedom from addiction seminars, youth conferences, concerts, street outreach and school outreaches. Last year for the first time we started the PNG Christmas Appeal, and our aim was to go into the Port Moresby General Hospital and suprise all the patients with gifts and yes, the singing of Christmas Carols. Despite leaving the fundraising until way to late and only raising $1000, we still managed to put smiles on a lot of faces, so yes, even though we had little our job was still accomplished. This year we plan to start early, raise more funds and have a greater impact where its needed. So what is Port Moresby like ?

Port Moresby

Port Moresby is the main city where hundreds of people migrate too everyday from the villages all around Papua New Guinea looking for a better lifestyle, but only to find chaos. Many have described Port Moresby as one of "the most dangerous countries in the world for women and children" by the the Australian news.com.au, the United Nations describe it as having "poor and crowded living conditions, a growing population with high urban migration, increasing cultural diversity and ethnic tensions, and a widening gap between rich and poor. It has been ranked as one of the five least-liveable cities in the world based on scores in five areas: stability, health care, culture and environment, education and infrastructure." To say the least Port Moresby has gained a poor reputation leaving it as one of the last tourist destinations on the planet.

Despite having this bad reputation, the potential is endless and i honestly cant wait to pack up everything and move there. It is nothing like Australia, but everytime I walk off that plane I feel at home. The people are friendly, everywhere I go i never fail to see smiles on their faces as random people walking the streets stop what they are doing just to wave at me ( i never get this in Sydney). The people are so open to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and and the team we have there is amazing always willing to serve with whatever needs to be done for the Kingdoms cause. I kindly ask all of you to think about this cause, and if you feel like donating I will be so grateful.
