SSG Chauncy Mays Memorial Road

Please help us to raise the funds needed to honor SSG Chauncy Mays a fallen soldier.

Titus County is asking to raise at least $3000.00 to pay for the signage for a 3.1 mile stretch of FM 2348 in memory of my husband SSG Chauncy Mays. Chauncy loved being in the Army as an EOD (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) technician and loved serving his country. He made his last "long walk" as an EOD tech February 28, 2011 when he went to be with The Lord and left his legacy behind for all who had the pleasure to know him.
The Titus County Commissioners approved the request to memorialize the section of road this past January and introduced the bill. State Representative Bryan Hughes approved it in April and it was then later signed by Governor Rick Perry.

Texas Department of Transportation no longer funds signs for memorial highways so County Judge Brian Lee says the county will have to pay for the signs itself. There will be two signs for each end of the highway making it official that will read "Army SSG Chauncy Mays Memorial Highway". Judge Lee says that TXDOT asks that the county be used as the central fund collector for the memorial project instead of donating straight to the highway department.

Chauncy was born on December 7, 1985 to Tommy Mays and Alyson Rodgers. He was married to Katherine Carpenter Mays and has two daughters Kiley Mays, now 5, and Chesnee Mays, now 4. He graduated from Chapel Hill High School in 2004 and joined the Army on June 17, 2004. He was serving with the 705th EOD Company, 184 EOD Battalion, Ft Polk, LA as an EOD team leader during his third deployment when he was killed in action in the Tangi Valley, Afghanistan on February 28, 2011.

Thank you for keeping this hero's memory alive and God bless!!
