Help Charley Get His Insulin Pump!

Donation protected
This is my 7 year old grandson, Charley. Last year, at age 6, Charley was diagnosed with Type I diabetes. Even though diabetes has affected other members of our family during their lifetime, none were diagnosed as young as Charley. The news came as quite a shock. Charley is the sweetest child. While the adults in his family have struggled to adjust to his new lifestyle, Charley has been a rock star, even reassuring us as we all learned to give him the 4 plus daily injections he must now endure. (It's ok Grandma! It didn't hurt!) He is a loving child who cares so much for others. He continually shows the adults around him what courage truly looks like. As Charley grows, the amount of insulin needed to regulate his diabetes increases. The best way to keep his blood sugar regulated is through the use of an insulin pump. Unfortunately, insurance will only cover a portion of the cost of the pump. (His parents must come up with the $1,100 balance before he can receive a pump.) Additionally, supplies for the pump and testing are also only partially covered by insurance and will cost up to $100 a month. Charley's lifestyle would be improved immensely with an insulin pump. Being such a young child, and being so active currently requires a lot of finger sticks to make sure his sugar is regulated. His tiny little arms are constantly bruised from required injections. An insulin pump would eliminate the 4-5 daily injections that he currently endures. Charley's parents (Dad is a police officer and Mom works for a local company) work hard to make ends meet, but insurance only covers so much which leaves a lot of medical and medication bills in its wake. The added cost of their potion of the insulin pump is just not going to be feasible any time soon. As his grandparents, we would love to give his parents what they need to move forward. Unfortunately, we suffered a recent life event that prevents us from doing so. Charley's parents would never ask for help. They continue to work hard to save what is needed to get Charley's pump, but anyone who has a child with a life long medical condition knows that just making ends meet becomes your life's goal. The goal here is not to make anyone rich but solely to get Charley on an insulin pump as soon as possible. Please consider making a donation to help us reach our goal. I thank you. His parents thank you. But most of all, Charley thanks you. ❤️
