Duke's Knee Surgery

Duke was rescued from a kill shelter about 5 years ago by Small Dog Rescue. He had a great foster home until he was adopted by a wonderful woman who loved him dearly. He was her whole world, and he adored her. Unfortunately, she became very ill and passed away just after Christmas last year. I was asked if I could take him in. He's so cute, and such a nice little guy, I was happy to take him.
His former mom was unable to get him the vet care he needed as she was so ill and on disability, so I got him in as quickly as I could. His liver enzymes were crazy high, and he was behind on shots. His knees were in pretty bad shape too. He has luxating petellas, which means that his little knees wabble in and out of joint. Ouch. I got him all fixed up, and starting making his food, put him on glucosamine, and he got better.
Last week he was walking and his little leg went out from under him. He fell and tore his cruciate ligament. That's the thing that holds your knees in place. His knee is out of the sockett, and his bones are scraping against each other. It's a very painful injury. Sometimes it can be handled with rest and medication, but his is so severe, he needs surgery ASAP. He is on pain medication, including some heavy narcotics, but he can't have the anti inflamitories he needs because of his previous liver issues.
The surgery will cost at least $1,500, but it's likely that it will be more, and he will need lots of follow up care. It will take about $2,000 to get everything he needs. Our goal is to get his surgery before Thanksgiving, but the sooner the better.
Please help little Duke. He's already been let down a couple times. Whenever it looks like things are starting to go his way, he has a setback. He is such a sweet and gentle little guy, he deserves a happy and pain free life.
