SANDY
We are 34 years old, have been married for 12 years and live with our two crazy cats. Our faith is the most important thing in our lives, followed very closely by our family. We both have the awesome privilege to be in full time ministry at a large multisite church in South Florida. Josh is a Children's Pastor at one of the satellite campuses and Sandy is an Executive Assistant. We are so thankful that God called us to South Florida. God knew what we were about to face and we can't imagine walking the path without our church family with us.
OUR STORY
In early 2009, after a long year of trying to conceive while living in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Sandy became pregnant, only to have a miscarriage at 8 weeks. The pregnancy resulted in a blighted ovum meaning that the fertilized egg attached itself to the uterine wall, but the embryo did not develop. We were crushed, but we continued to stand in faith that God could do anything, including helping us to get pregnant again. Two years later and after a big move to South Florida, we were still unsuccessful in starting a family and were referred to an infertility specialist. Through many tests and procedures we were informed that we had a 1% chance of getting pregnant on our own. We had two choices: IVF with ICSI (injecting sperm directly into the egg(s) to induce fertilization; ICSI stands for intracytoplasmic sperm injection), or schedule an appointment for Josh to see a urologist for further testing. We decided that Josh would see the urologist, which resulted in outpatient surgery in May 2012, to repair a bilateral varicocele. A varicocele is an enlargement of the veins within the scrotum and is a common cause of low sperm production and decreased sperm quality, which can cause infertility. We were given one-year, post surgery, to become pregnant. After that time, any positive results from the procedure would plateau. Through all of this, we continued to stand firm in our faith and the hope that God gave us through Mark 11:23.
It has now been over a year since Josh's surgery and while we know God can still provide naturally, we have prayerfully decided to take the next step toward IVF with ICSI. We are stepping out in faith rather than waiting on the sidelines, knowing that God can still perform a miracle, even if it's through doctor's hands. Will you step out in faith with us?
THE NEED
From beginning to end, IVF with ICSI will cost approximately $17,000. This covers all medical procedures as well as several medications that are necessary for the process. Although we believe that the initial process will be successful, we would like to be prepared for the possible need of another round of IVF. In the event that we do not conceive on our initial try, we would need an additional $4000-$6000 to cover the cost of egg/embryo storage and a second round of the IVF with ICSI process. Our total need is $23,000 ($17k + $6k) for the entire process.
In the event that we raise the full amount and we conceive on our first round of IVF with ICSI, we will use the remaining funds to help pay for hospital bills and the first few months of the baby's life with us. We also know that God can still do a miracle before we even start the IVF process, so if we conceive naturally we will close this web page. We will also use any raised funds to help pay for hospital expenses and several months of the baby's new life with us.
