Calling all who are able to be a blessing to a beautiful couple who are in a very tough situation.
Mike had a stroke in 2010 which left him partially paralyzed and unable to work. Being too young for Medicare Mike had to be on disability for two years before being eligible. He had a monthly prescription bill of $700 and not being eligible for Medicaid either every dime was out of pocket. Needing full time care and not able to receive any assistance to help pay that cost Belinda had to quit her job to care for Mike leaving them now without any income. Within the last two years because of some unforseen circumstances they have unselfishly and without hesitation taken custody of two of their grandsons ages two and four.
At this time their financial instability has caught up to them and they have lost their home to foreclosure and were evicted just about a week ago. Mike was taken to South Side hospital with no where else for him to go and Belinda and her grandsons have been sleeping at the hospital after spending one night in a shelter which left the littlest with a horrible rash the next morning.
Because of their poor credit they are finding it impossible to locate a rental that is willing to take them without paying at least three months rent up front for security of which they don't have and the option of going down to Georgia where they have some family is proving to be tough because the cost of transporting Mike who at this point is bed ridden is upwards of $5000.
These are very humble folks who have been a blessing to soooo many and we are just asking for help to give them a hand up.
Thank you in advance for anything you can do to help relieve some of their stress and hopefully enable them to have a clean, safe place to lay their weary heads for Christmas.
