Save the FSHS Courtyard

As a former student at Fort Scott High School, you likely have some fond memories of time spent in the school's courtyard. It was a feature that was a special part of our school's campus. The courtyard was a unique space for gatherings of all sorts.

The courtyard was a charming outdoor area—enclosed within the school—that was popular for activities like:

 • cheering for our Tiger teams at outdoor pep assemblies

 • a themed homecoming dance filled with decorations, music, food and friends

 • enjoying some fresh air during outdoor classroom time

 • laughing with friends during yearbook signing parties

 • taking outdoor photos with your classmates

 • enjoying personal reading or studying time in the sunshine

 • ...insert your favorite memory here...

The courtyard still is there today, but not in the same state that you might remember. Sadly, the courtyard today doesn’t even receive a glance by passing students.

Recently, however, one of FSHS's current students, Ella Beth, daughter of two FSHS alumni (Clifton Beth-92) and (Whitney Kunstal-95) decided she wanted to renovate the courtyard and bring it to its full potential.

With courageous ambition, Ella has set forth an initiative to not just rehab the FSHS courtyard, but to make it a centerpiece within campus again. Ella has invested many, many hours of her personal time to research, create concepts, gather costs, and seek the help of others who could help her with this project.

With Ella's initiative, she was granted permission from USD 234. She has sought support and guidance from several local alumni. She has embarked on a journey to cast a vision and raise the necessary funds to make her vision for the courtyard a reality—not just for past and present Tigers—but for the Tigers yet to come.

As a FSHS TIGER alumni and friend, we invite you to learn more about our courtyard project, but we also ASK you to GIVE.

Ella's vision for the courtyard will cost approximately $106,000. Through hard work and partnership, Ella has already been able to secure an amazing $76,000 in grants and in-kind gifts.

Yet, $30,000 still needs to be raised. To meet this need, we've created a Go Fund Me page to allow alumni and friends like you to become part of Ella's vision team and make the FSHS Courtyard a treasured space once again.

How can you help?

1. You can give now on our FSHS COURTYARD on this Go Fund Me page

2. Share the FB page (https://www.facebook.com/fshscourtyard/) along to other friends and alumni on Facebook and allow them to be part of this project.

3. Take a moment to share a favorite memory and photo (if you have one).

4. Celebrate with us this summer at the all-school reunion at the unveiling of the renovated FSHS Courtyard!

Tigers are special people. You are one of them. We have Tiger Pride! We take care of our own.
