Scoliosis Mission Trip to Honduras

Hello Friends and Family!

In just a couple months, I will have a unique opportunity to go to Honduras on a medical mission trip on behalf of the Ruth Paz Foundation.

I will be joining a group of medical professionals including surgeons, anesthesiologists, neurologists, neurophysiologists and nurses for a week-long trip in May. On this medical mission, we will be providing medical care and education to many children in and around San Pedro Sula, Honduras. In addition to training some of the local medical staff, some of the basic duties we will perform on the trip include: performing high risk scoliosis surgery, monitoring the functional integrity of the nervous system, pre and post-operative neurological assessments, wound treatment etc.


Despite some recent turmoil in the country, a fortunate turn of events have allowed me a spot on this trip as we continue our efforts to develop a local sustainable spine program that will change many young children’s lives for years to come. During the previous three years our "XeScoliosis" brigade has successfully operated on 22 children for scoliosis, many of whom had not had any prior medical treatment for their condition.




The trip is volunteer oriented, thus I am seeking donations to assist with the costs associated with the trip. With airfare, lodging, food and other travel related expenses I am anticipating the cost of the trip to be approximately $1,700. Any additional funds raised would be used to provide basic humanitarian supplies and assistance to those in the area.
