Hi, my name is Carhen Palacios. I'm enrolled for the Spring semester 2021 in Houston Community College. Due to Covid-19, I had to apply for online classes only. Still, the price for only this semester is way too high for my mom, head of household and single mother, to pay for it.
I'm trying to major in psychology trying to later on go to university and become an Art Therapist. I want people to be able to relate to me; give them something that makes them feel understood, and supported. Many of these people who suffer from anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, and other types of mental health issues sometimes don’t realize that there are other people going through the same situation, and that they shouldn’t be ashamed to seek help. I would like to let them know this, and I would like to do it in a form of expression more artistic than just talking about it because words are hard to say sometimes. Art makes possible to express feelings some people wouldn’t know how to express otherwise.
I wish to make all these ideas and hopes come true through college, but it is really hard for me to do it by myself. I live just with my mom in this country because we had to leave ours in order to live a better life. She’s the only person I have and she has supported me so much all these years. I know being the head of the household it’s been really tough for her, so I want to return the favor and give her the peace of mind she deserves by studying something I know I will excel at.
This is why I’m asking whoever is reading this to help me make this happen. We, as a family of just two people, can’t possibly afford the education I desire to have, so I’m reaching out for help with this campaign. I'm putting my trust one more time in GoFundMe since it's been the best tool for me in some of the most critic moments in my life in this country. Thank you so much to the people who have already helped me so much, and I hope you help me share this with as many people as possible and to reach this goal I've been working so hard on for so long.

Estoy tratando de especializarme en psicología para luego ir a la universidad y convertirme en terapeuta de arte (Art Therapist). Quiero que la gente pueda indentificarse conmigo; darles algo que los haga sentir comprendidos y apoyados. Muchas de estas personas que sufren de ansiedad, depresión, baja autoestima y otros tipos de problemas de salud mental a veces no se dan cuenta de que hay otras personas que atraviesan la misma situación y que no deberían avergonzarse de buscar ayuda. Me gustaría hacerles saber esto, y me gustaría hacerlo en una forma de expresión más artística que simplemente hablando porque las palabras a veces son difíciles de decir. El arte permite expresar sentimientos que algunas personas no sabrían expresar de otra manera.
Deseo hacer realidad todas estas ideas y esperanzas a través del college, pero es realmente difícil para mí hacerlo sola. Vivo sola con mi mamá en este país porque tuvimos que dejar el nuestro para tener una vida mejor. Ella es la única persona que tengo y me ha apoyado mucho todos estos años. Sé que ser cabeza de familia ha sido muy difícil para ella, así que quiero recompenzarla y darle la tranquilidad que se merece al estudiar algo en lo que estoy segura que sere excelente.
Por eso le pido a quien esté leyendo esto que me ayude a hacer que esto suceda. Nosotras, como una familia de solo dos personas, no podemos costear la educación que deseo tener, así que solicito ayuda con esta campaña. Estoy depositando mi confianza una vez más en GoFundMe ya que ha sido la mejor herramienta para mí en algunos de los momentos más críticos de mi vida en este país.
