3rd Annual Holiday Fund for Teens

During the holidays there are many charitable organizations seeking to provide gifts to children in need, including children in foster care, in group homes, and in families at risk. Within these efforts, teens are often overlooked. I (Jes) know this first hand from being in the foster care system throughout my adolescence. This is a way to let those teens know they're not forgotten. FosterBox aims to raise money for purchasing holiday gifts specifically for teens in foster care and group homes. This will be our third year.
In the first, FosterBox raised $2750. This amount of money sponsored $250 worth of gifts for 11 teens identified through Forsyth County Social Services, providing some of them with the best holiday season they have ever had. Several of the teens were in the process of transitioning to independence in the upcoming spring, so gifts included: pots and pans, flatware, and other household items. A friend, Tracy Cate, took the idea to Wake County as well, and raised $1500 which went to the purchase of $50 gift cards for teens in that county. 
In the second year, Tracy and I combined forces to target Wake County and raised a total of $2,225, sponsoring approximately 44 teens.
This year, we will be having separate (but still united) efforts again. Tracy will be fundraising in Wake County, and I will be focused on Orange County. The goal for this year is $5,000 and will be split between the two counties. The two counties do their gifting a little bit differently, so know that this money will sponsor 10 teens ($250 per teen with items they specifically request) in Orange Co. and 50 teens in Wake County ($50 gift card per teen). For the teens in Orange Co., we are able to post updates about what they request and what we are able to provide, so you, the donor, can see the difference you are making. It's very exciting!
