HELP ME HELP HIM.
I wish I knew this pup's name, but I don't. So for the purpose of his rescue effort we will call him Trooper. To put a face with the hero of this post, I think he would look alot like this little guy if we met in a better situation.
I was coming home from work Sunday night and found this poor little guy in the road. Everyone was just driving over him. When I pulled aside to assess the situation, he was hit again by a speeding vehicle. Luckily, another nice man helped me pick up the dog and check him out. Trooper was bleeding profusely from the mouth, having trouble breathing, and just in plain shock. But, given the trauma, he also seemed to not be as injured as previously thought. Mr. Phillips helped me carefully put the dog in my car on a bed of event work shirts and paper towels before he turned the corner to see if he could find an owner. When he returned, unsuccessful, I left for the animal hospital. They managed to stablize Trooper and give him some IV fluids and pain killers, but without a financially responsible party they are not able to perform the much needed surgery to fix his fractured jaw. With out this surgery he will not beable to eat and will have to end up being euthanized.
Given the lack of expendable cash at the moment, I had no choice but to surrender him as a stray for the next 36 hours and let them look for the owners. He is not microchipped and the tag has fallen off his blue collar. I'm confident he has a family out there as he was of pretty healthy weight and aside from the accident mess, very clean and loving.
I couldn't sleep last night thinking that such a wonderful dog could be euthanized. Please help me quickly raise some cash for Trooper! We've only got one or two days, but I of course am doing what I can to extend that from my end.
If by chance we are too late, any funds raised will go to local pet rescue efforts here in Indianapolis.
