My name is Lolo Arziki I’m a filmmaker from Cape Verde based between Lisbon and Luxembourg.
Last year I wrote a film named SAKUDI and I submitted it to the funding of ASSOCIATION OF CINEMA AND AUDIOVISUALS of Cape Verde. Unfortunately they refused the funding stating that the movie doesn’t respect the Public Notice Regulation article 2.1, which states that all projects must promote the cultural diversity in the country.
The president of ACACV said in the statement that talking about LGBTQI people is not related to the Cape Verdean Culture. Because of this form of economic censorship we are creating strategic planning to produce this film through other channels.
SAKUDI shows us the intimate portrait of six different stories. With Patricia, a transsexual woman who is mute,we explore other forms of communication. VanisaTomlinson shows us her perspective, being bisexual. We explore her life as she lives with the conflict of her sexuality and religious beliefs. Fabio Silva tells us about coming from extreme poverty. Fabio does not conform to gender and is gay.
Maya Neves identifies as queer. She is a young promising voice in music in Cape Verde who thinks critically about other queer people’s situations in the country.
Ima Tavares is a trans-person in transition who lives inconflict, conflict between his identity, the mourning of his parents and we look at transphobia and extreme poverty in a social context.
We close off with the story of Élis and Idânia, a lesbian couple who live the beauty of being in love through all of life’s situations.
SAKUDI aims to demystify our image of black queer representation telling this story in a contemporary way,being an experimental documentary.

No ano passado escrevi este filme SAKUDI e o submeti ao financiamento da ASSOCIAÇÃO DO CINEMA E DO AUDIOVISUAL DE CABO VERDE que recusou o financiamento defendendo que o filme não respeita o artigo 2.1 do regulamento que diz que o projeto deve promover a diversidade cultural no país, o presidente disse no comunicado que falar de pessoas LGBTQI não tem relação com a cultura cabo-verdiana!
Desde desta censura econômica estamos fazendo um planejamento estratégico para produzir este trabalho!
SAKUDI conta-nos o retrato íntimo de 6 histórias! Patricia uma mulher transexual que é muda e exploramos outras formas de comunicação, Vanisa Tomlinson que é bissexual e vive o conflito de sua sexualidade e crenças religiosas, Fabio Silva que nos conta sobre viver na periferia sendo gay e gênero não conforme e homossexualidade na pele, Maya Neves uma jovem queer promissora voz da música em Cabo Verde, Ima Tavares uma pessoa trans em transição que sai do conflito entre a sua identidade, a perda dos seus pais e transfobia no contexto familiar e social e por fim terminamos com uma história de amor de um casal de lésbicas Elis e Idânia.
SAKUDI pretende desmistificar o nosso imaginário de representação queer negra contando esta história de uma forma contemporânea sendo um documentário experimental.
