*Update* Darla passed away at the age of 39 years old, surrounded by familly and friends, on July 30, 2014 at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre. She fought a brave battle with brain cancer until God called her home to end her suffering. Darla is survived by her beloved husband Kres and children Kristian, Erik, Emily, Stefan and Brayded; sister Kelly, brother Brad, parents Linda and Lorne. In lieu of flowers, donations are accepted here on Go Fund Me to assist with final arrangements. Darla did finally get to take the Avastin drug therapy, however, the cancerous tumours were too aggressive. Thank you for everyone who followed Darla's journey. In order to accept the overwhelming offers from friends and strangers, Darla's Fund has been created. This will be used to cover the cost of alternative therapies and general living expenses for Darla and her kids since she can no longer work and her husband is her 24 hiur care giver. She receives some government assistance but it is very modest.
Darla was born in 1974 in Calgary. This young mother was diagnosed with a yucky cancerous brain tumour in 2012. She celebrated her one year anniversary of surviving and beating this by releasing balloons (zebra striped, of course) with her family.
This picture was taken in June 2013 at the Brain Tumour Foundation Spring Sprint. Darla was the captain of Team Zebra, completing 2.5KM and raising over $5,000 for the Brain Tumour foundation of Canada.
