Massage Therapy and Cancer course fund

Hello, my name is Katie and I have been a registered massage therapist for nearly 10 yrs. In those years, I have had the great fortune to have met some amazing people and have had the rewarding experience of helping them manage their pain or even ridding them of it! I love my job!
As a member of the Massage Therapy Assoc. of NS (MTANS) I am required to continue my education so I can offer the best most up to date treatment techniques and information to my beloved clients. One group of people were previously thought to not be able to receive massage therapy's healing touch and that is cancer patients. New research is finding that to be untrue. With education and modified treatments, massage therapists can offer relief to cancer patients while in hospital, receiving treatment and at home.
This is where you come in: an intensive 4 day course is being offered in Chicago this October and between the course ($745) travel and accommodations( so far, approx. $1280) the cost is unfortunately more than I can afford at this time. This is something close to my heart, we have all felt the pain of cancer in some way, directly, loss of a family member, friend or neighbor. I have felt all of those. Nova Scotia has a disturbingly high rate of cancer and if I could be able to learn what is needed to help relieve even a little of the pain and stress of someone's who is suffering from this disease I would be eternally grateful.
