National Golden Glove Tournament

Donation protected

I am Carnell Giles. I am a father of two boys and Engaged to be married next summer. I am an Amateur Boxer representing Big Dog Boxing Club in Port Huron, MI. On April 22nd, I won the State Golden Gloves Championship for Michigan. I am attempting to raise money so that I am able to bring my Coach with me to the National Tournament in Layfayette, LA.. Big Dog Boxing Club is a non-profit organization. We are a free program that survives on donations and fundraisers. There is no charge for kids or adults for training. All money the gym recieves is from donations and fundraisers. Jim Smedley opened this gym in 2005. Since its opening day, it has changed many lives for the greater.. And has given many opportunities to kids and adults of all ages. It has given many kids a second home. It serves as a great cause to the Port Huron area.

I was first introduced to Big Dog Boxing Club in 2009 by William "Billy" Witgen.. He was my High School wrestling coach at New Haven High. I have been there since then. He passed away in 2012 losing a hard fought battle to cancer. I will forever be thankful to him. He put me in great hands.

Back in October 2014. I faced what I thought was a career ending blow to the face. I had a fractured floral orbital bone under my left eye. My nose was also fractured. Soon after, I returned to the surgeon to see if it was sure that I was never allowed to participate in fighting sports again. I was cleared after finding out I had a disolvable plate in my face instead of a metal plate. It was great news. I was given a second chance at following my dreams of being Heavyweight Champion of the World.

This time.. I am taking full advantage of the opportunity that I have with the natural gifts and abilities that I have been given. One of those gifts is my Coach. He has inspired me to become the man that I am. He introduced me to another way of fighting in life. In the Ring. He believed in my deeply and has shown me what I am capable of in life. Inside and outside of the ring. Showing me that anything is possible in life.. All you have to do is go and get it. This has taken away so many of my insecurities.. I believe in myself. I am sure that there are many other fighters that have fought for him, that can tell you the same thing. Even if they have retired fighting.. I am so thankful for this man.. As many of us are. He is a role model to so many..

This was my third attempt at the Michigan Golden Gloves Tournament. After two 2nd place trophies. I have finally achieved a great goal of mine. I am 201+ lbs Champion of Michingan. I will be competing in the National Golden Glove tournament.

I am raising funds to be able to afford to bring my coach with me. We have been through a lot together and it would mean the world to me to have him there by my side. We are trying to raise $3000 to cover plane tickets, lodging, and also money for food.

Anything we could get would be very appreciated. If we do not reach our goal. We thank you all for helping as much as you can. If we recieve more than our goal.. It will all be donated to our Non-profit Boxing Club for updated equipment and future expenses for traveling and lodging for the kids program. It is a free program. And we are keeping it that way.

Donations can also be dropped off to Big Dog Boxing Club Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 4:30-7 pm. The address is 2240 10th St, Port Huron, MI.

Thank you so much!
