If you know me, you know that I have a very hard time asking for help. But the time has come for me to ask.

I had another surgery on my spine on July 1. I

woke up afterward paralyzed from the waist down. I had calcification on one of the vertebrae in the thoracic section of my spine. It was starting to get close to my spinal cord, and the surgeon wanted to remove it before it caused paralysis. Who knew, right? It did anyway. But the spinal cord is a fickle part of the body. And my spinal cord is being fickle. I was able to be admitted to the Rehabilitation Institute of Michigan on July 11 and had some intense therapy to get me walking again. But insurance ran out, and yesterday I was transferred to a nursing home/rehab facility for 6 more weeks of rehab on getting my mobility back. Unfortunately, this facility is not staffed enough to continue the therapy that I need to walk any time soon. I'll have to continue therapy in an outpatient facility, which is why I'm asking for your help.

We have to do several renovations to our house to get it ready for me to come home, including building a wheelchair ramp and purchasing a wheelchair-accessible van so I can get to doctor appointments, outpatient therapy, church,

etc. There are several dealerships in the metro Detroit area that sell them, but the lowest we've seen is around $17,000. Used. It shocked us, but we have to do it. Or we could lease one for $600 a month with $6,000 down.
