18 for 18

And we're off!! 18 hours of circus have begun!

About 18 for 18

 

I’m Aisling and I'm setting up an event for my 18th birthday called 18 for 18 it is to raise awareness for mental health issues and how circus helps people to improve their mental health.

 

This is really important to me because I think everyone that knows me knows that I struggle a lot with anxiety and depression and circus has helped me so much to be able to get through that and helped me deal with that. When I first started circus I had been bedridden for 2 years and it gave me something to get up for so I’m calling it 18 for 18 because it is one hour of circus for every year I have been alive because if it wasn’t for circus I probably wouldn’t be turning 18.

 

Each hour is a class with online and in person options as well so people who can’t come in in person are still able to join. All of the money raised is going to go to the Circus Central BTEC fund so that anyone who wants to do the course but doesn’t have the money can still get involved. Finding funding for this course was really hard for me and is really hard for other people on the course so I want to make it easier for people.

 

It will be on the 12th January it will start at 6am and finish at 12 midnight as it goes into the 13th (that’s when my birthday is so it will finish as I turn 18).

 

We are aiming to reach £1800 as this covers the cost for 1 person to join the BTEC level 2 which is where I started.
