Kuzaliwa is the Swahili word meaning birth.
Birth is a natural process that has become less and less about mother and child.
Our Vision
A healthy, happy child is one surrounded by friends and family from the start. Ernesto and Ayanna plan to welcome their baby in their home as women have done for millenia. They will be shrouded with love by family and attended by midwives who trust the mama and child to do what comes naturally.
Thoughts from the mother.......
"I am blessed to have been raised with the knowledge of the naturalness, beauty and power of childbirth. Being present for the 36 hour labor and eventual delivery of my younger brother Aidid remains one of the most powerful moments of my childhood. Our house in Cambridge flooded with friends and family, my mother danced and groaned and bathed and was attended to by her partner and sistafriends. There was drumming and food and celebratory community and on a sunny Friday morning my brother was born. Healthy and beautiful.
Since then, I have only ever imagined my own birthing experience in my home, a space of safety and comfort and love where I best draw on my physical and spiritual strength to do the important work of passing my son into the living world in the presence of family."

As I a embark on this journey with Ayanna to welcome our child into this world, I am often over whelmed with emotions, challenges and blessings.
One of those challenges is the duty of creating a financial reality in which our son can be born in our home. This is why we are asking our friends and family who would feel so inclined to make a gift towards the cost of our home birth. I know there are some people that may not have a relationship to home birth and that is understood. I can assure you it is a choice that is firmly rooted in spirit, heart, love and family.
