Wheelchair Van for Bruce

My father, Bruce Brandt, has faced and overcome many obstacles in his life. The main obstacle in his story is when he broke his back in a car accident. Doctors told him he would never walk again. To which he responded "Watch me", and he did. Not even allowing his crutches in his wedding photos. But time doesn't heal all wounds, sometimes it resurfaces them. While never recovering completely, I grew up with my Dad walking and fully independent. Independence, a luxury most of us take for granted, was slowly ciezed from my dad as I was entering adulthood. My children have never seen their grandfather walking or being the selfreliant person I knew growing up. The cold northern winters were not allowing him to be as active as is needed for his physical and mental rehabilitation, so we moved him and my mom to Florida. In preparation for the move he had his wheelchair accessible van inspected, and was told that it wasn't a good idea to try and drive it to FL. So he donated their only vehicle to someone in the area that could use it. We didn't bring my parents down here to retire into hospice care, we brought them down here to live fuller and more inclusive lives. Most of us will never fully understand or appreciate the ease of going out to dinner, going to the park with your family because most of us will not have our mobility taken from us. We are trying to raise $20,000 to purchase a late model wheelchair lift van so my father can enjoy life with us and also get to doctor appointments and rehabilitation. If we don't raise the full amount we will put it towards getting the best van we can for him, and if we happen to raise more it will be put to professional rehabilitation as the government isn't willing to pay for anymore.
