Financial Needs For Patient Care

Samantha was diagnosed with ALL (Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia) on June 6th, 2010 while living in Arizona. Her family came to Arizona and she was stabilized at Good Samaritan hospital in Arizona and was then transferred back to Atlanta, Georgia (her hometown) where she received treatment for three years. They spent over $4000 at this point and unconditionally cared for her over the next 3 years while living in Georgia. Samantha was released from treatment and in full remission from her Leukemia in February of 2013. She received a job offer in Arizona and moved back there in April of 2013. Not soon after arriving back in Arizona this year she started to have severe headaches, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, and night sweats. The doctor that she went to in Arizona stated she had tension headaches caused from many factors, one of which being her new work environment. On July 1st, 2013, while at work, Samantha experienced numbness in her right arm, blurred vision in her right eye, and was unable to complete sentences and speak clearly. That evening she drove herself to the emergency room and has been in the hospital since the evening of July 1st, 2013. Samantha has learned that her Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia has come back and spread to her central nervous system. She has been receiving chemo treatments as well as radiation treatments and is battling through severe pain as well as nausea. Samantha's parents drove from Atlanta, Georgia to Gilbert, Arizona on July 3rd, 2013, which took them approximately 3 nights and 4 days.
The family has a financial burden associated with caring for Samantha during her treatment for stabilizing the leukemia. They are needing to rent living quarters during this time period, being 2000 miles away from home. This alone is very expensive and they are not certain how long they will be in this situation. They have already been here for 10 days and will most likely spend another 10 to 14 days before making their next move. Samantha did not have her own apartment, therefore all living expenses, while staying in Arizona, are in addition to keeping their home bills, ect. paid up in Georgia. Currently, there is no known time frame for recovery and she and her parents may have to reside in Arizona for an unknown period of time. At this point, we are waiting for acceptance into the MD Anderson Program in Houston, for Samantha's bone marrow transplant. The waiting & recovery time frame after a BMT (Bone Marrow Transplant) is roughly 6 months to a year for Samantha's body to accept the new blood. Through this journey, any assistance & donations you can provide would be greatly appreciated by the family. This way Samantha & her family can be together through the healing process prior to returning to their hometown in Georgia.
