Team Boo Fighting Histiocytosis

Adrian who is 3 1/2 years old was diagnosed with a very rare disease called familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis on June 22nd 2013. Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis(HLH) is a disorder in which the immune system produces too many activated immune cells (lymphocytes) called T cells, natural killer cells, B cells, and macrophages (histiocytes). Excessive amounts of immune system proteins called cytokines are also produced. This overactivation of the immune system causes fever and damages the liver and spleen, resulting in enlargement of these organs. Familial hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis also destroys blood-producing cells in the bone marrow, a process called hemophagocytosis. As a result, affected individuals have low numbers of red blood cells (anemia) and a reduction in the number of blood cells involved in clotting (platelets). A reduction in platelets may cause easy bruising and abnormal bleeding. As a result of this auto-immune disorder he will need to go through a series of chemo therapy treatments to supress the disease and ultimately need a bone marrow transplant. Our main goal with this page is to set up a fund to help out with the expenses of gas, parking, food, housing and most importantly being put on the bone marrow bank list which is 10k alone and future costs of the bone marrow transplant procedures.
