What does it look like to be a generous people? Where in this American Dream can you find real community? How do teach your children to look outside of "number one" and really give to others. Where do you find real value in life? What makes a house a home? How do you love others well? Where can you have a drum circle at midnight James Salvato? Whose refridgerator can you open and just dig into Steve Goslin? Where do you go for never ending dating advice Jed Zayner?
Their home (no matter which house they reside in) has always had an open door policy. We have shared everything from food to holidays with family, friends, and strangers alike.
Bernie and Roxi; amazing hosts, passion for life, live to serve, love for community and culture, excitement for the younger generations, loyal, hard working, strong, honest, and able to love abundantly. These are just a few of the qualities these two have instilled in so many. These are qualities that out of their home they have shared with so many asking nothing in return. With that being said we now have the opportunity to love and serve them back. To return a small amount of what they have so graciously poured into each of us. To share the love they have so generously given.
Mom and dad finally have a REAL need that will require more then just a listening ear; that's where you and I come in. Since their return from the Netherlands they have had one heck of a time just trying to catch their breath. Not only does a return home from the mission field come with a culture shock; but also for these two came with a loss of everything that was once familiar. They left their family, home, and jobs everything recognizable to them to invest in a community across the pond. While gaining some amazing experiences in the Netherlands as well as some lifelong friends the return home has been everything but easy. Coming back to America in the midst of an economic downfall created a less then desirable situation for these two.
Upon returning home they have had to learn to really let go. They both returned home to no career but yet a mortgage payment, the need for vehicles (contrary to popular belief you cannot bike everywhere in America), utilities, and day-to-day living expenses. As time passed some of these burdens became more then what they could take on with the jobs they were provided. As some of you may know and others not; they "lost" their home almost two years ago. They graciously walked away; reminding even us kids that it's not the house that makes the home. This pending foreclosure now two years later has taken an interesting turn of events. There are several variables to this situation and options that would allow for them to minimize their losses; or potentially with a miracle save their house. In order for any of these options to be obtainable they need to have legal representation, and all hands on deck for helping put the 159 house back together!
So let me break this down for you. In order to obtain the legal representation and get the ball rolling, they need an initial $2,500. In order to keep legal representation the cost is $500.00 a month (for 3-4 months). There are plenty of additional costs that will go into making this possible, house repairs, cleaning, lawn care, utilities, etc. The best-case scenario would be for them to be able to list the house by this weekend as well as pay that initial fee within the next 48-72 hours. So we need money and we need hands! You can donate directly to the link below, and as for helping with house/lawn care you can contact me via private message on facebook. We will be there all weekend with crews of people helping so you can let me know what times and I will make sure there is someone there!
Bernie and Roxi are the two who rally for others in need. This is not something they would do for themselves. This is an opportunity for us to rally for them and serve them in a way they have served so many others. They are downsizing everywhere they can in order to come up with as much money as possible; however this is not something that would be feasible without community. They are also two of the most thankful individuals I have ever met, constantly looking at the bright side. They know that life is rich because of family and friends like you. Thanks for taking the time to read this, and please feel free to tag others you think would love to hear their story! I look forward to seeing what this community surrounding them is capable of!
