Rwanda Peace Documentary

I have been offered the exciting opportunity to travel to Rwanda with the non-profit organization, Peace Talks! PEACETALKS creates radio programs about people who have found unique, creative and uplifting ways of moving beyond violence. It explores in-depth issues, ideas and practices that are at the heart of the global struggle for peace and justice.


With members of The Peace Center, we will be visiting Kigali and Gisenyi and interviewing individuals and representatives of organizations in Rwanda to hear how the Hutu and Tutsi have found ways of healing and exploring the possibility of forgiving the murderers in the genocide 19 years ago.

I will be recording, photographing and video graphing the interviewee's experiences with the genocide and with the recent reconciliation processes in their communities through sports, art and peace education programs. The recorded stories will then be compiled into a narrative about the peace process in Rwanda and will be produced as a radio broadcast and video in the U.S. It will air in time for the 20th anniversary in April 2014.

I am thrilled at the possibility of bringing together my love of photography and my belief that all humans deserve to be treated with respect and dignity no matter who they are or where they live. I am very excited to contribute to the creation of a narrative which will be used across the U.S. as a tool for social change, and for me, the opportunity for personal transformation.
