Bone Marrow Transplant: Susan Colgan

My mother has spent 2/3 of her life fighting a disease that has touched many lives other than just her own: Cancer. It's been well over 30 years since her initial Lymphoma diagnosis. Between then and now has come multiple bouts with remission that ultimately brought the same heartbreaking news... more cancer. This time the heartbreak comes in the form of MDS. Some may know this as what Robin Roberts famously battled and also as pre-leukemia. All the years of chemo and radiation is what has brought on this new disease. MDS has hit my mom with a vengeance, much more severe then she has ever known. It also brings a life expectancy of a year or less. The only chance of survival comes in the form of a bone marrow transplant, and even that only offers a 50/50 chance. But it is a chance that has to be taken because my momma has come too far to give up now.. literally! Obviously a transplant is extremely expensive and health insurance does not come close to covering even a quarter of the costs. So with the help of my family and friends we hope to eliminate some of the financial burdens and worries. If you cannot donate, please do something even more important: Register to be a bone marrow donor. It is FREE and you could save someone's life if chosen as a match. My mom only found a 9/10 match, which complicates the transplant further and increases the risk for her body to reject it.
