Malawi Volunteer Trip

Donation protected
This Fall I have been given the opportunity to travel to Lilongwe, Malawi to work as a Marketing Officer with The Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWEMA), a non-profit organization that works in close partnership with the Ministry of Education (MoE) to support girls and women to acquire education and training for development. I will be going through the Students Without Borders program with the Canadian based non-profit organization called the World University Service of Canada (WUSC). FAWEMA, in collaboration with WUSC Malawi, are working on a project that support women's groups known as mother groups to manufacture and distribute sanitary pads for school-aged girls.

The purpose of raising awareness around sanitary pads is based on the fact that many girls and women are frequently absent from school or work because they lack health, hygiene, education, and sustained access to affordable high quality sanitary pads.

This September I plan to work for 3 months as a skilled volunteer. My role will be to support FAWEMA in conducting a market analysis of the sanitary project, assess profitability of sanitary pads, train women in marketing skills, support women in promoting sanitary pads, ensure the participation and representation of women and men in all activities, and draft a report for the host organization and WUSC.

As many of you know I have spent the last three years living, working, and volunteering in developing countries. I am currently pursuing my Masters degree in International Development and Global Studies. This program will help me attain my goals of building public awareness and influencing policy formulation in favor of achieving increased access to girls' education through advocacy.

I am reaching out to my friends and family to help raise support for this volunteer opportunity. The program fee is $3,200, which covers my flight, travel insurance, housing, and food for 12 weeks. This fee does not include my medical check, vaccinations, security clearance, and entry for Malawi. Any contribution towards the cost of making this trip possible is greatly appreciated! Thank you for all of your love, support, and encouragement.

Best,
Brittany
