She Moves Mountains Mentorship Program

She Moves Mountains exists to empower and educate women with technical rock climbing clinics and community events. Additionally, our conception as a company was greatly motivated by the lack of female presence in the guiding industry. Currently, only about 15% of working guides are women, and even fewer are people of color or  LGBTQ+.  

Guiding as a career is full of hurdles; a large financial and time commitment, as well as the experience and skill to qualify for rigorous training programs.  We established the SMM mentorship program to address, and counter, this disparity in our industry.

The program aims to provide an opportunity to explore what it means to be a guide in a supportive and encouraging environment. To create a space where participants can shadow current instructors while having the opportunity to ask questions about the realities of becoming and being a guide.

Throughout the 2021 season, SMM guides will provide up to four (4) free clinics to our mentee team.  These clinics will help build the technical skills and experience needed to complete some of the entry level courses necessary to work as a professional instructor or guide.  

Our goal is to raise the funds necessary to cover basic expenses for these clinics to happen; this includes guide wages, insurance and permitting.  Our goal for the mentorship program is to encourage and empower more female identified and non-binary people aspiring to work in the guiding industry, especially those from marginalized backgrounds. 

Any additional funds will go towards course and exam fees for our mentees!
