Hello, my name is Alexandra Velie and I'm from Santa Rosa, CA, which has and is still being devastated by the Tubbs Wildfire in Northern California.
On Oct. 9th, 2:30 am, my aunt Dalia and her husband Matt received a phone call to evacuate their home. There was a wildfire heading towards their neighborhood. Matt, being an experienced fireman, told his family to get dressed and get out as quickly as possible. Dalia grabbed her 3 children, Matthew (13), Lily (6) and Vivienne (15 months) and evacuated the only home her children have known.
Matt made the call to stay behind and do his best to save his home and help his neighbors. He fought tirelessly for 3 hours, hosing down his house and those around him, from the coming flames that eventualy engulfed everything around them. Matt finally, with much relucctance had to admit defeat and evacutated to reunite with my aunt. Dalia and Matt returned to what was left and found absoluetly nothing but ash and rubble.
Their children lost everything. Matthew, the aspiring athlete not only lost his room full of baseball and football gear and equipment, but his plans to attend Cardinal Newman are unsure now, as that school was also hit by the fire. Their daughter Lily, the crafting prodigy, is one of dozens of her friends from Schaefer Charter School left without a roof over her head.
We are asking for anything to help Dalia and Matt get back on their feet. Dalia will be receive the funds directly from the campaign and will be using some funds immediately to buy clothes, toiletries and food for her family. Most of the funds will be saved to help with cost of rebuilding and refurnishing their home. They are great people, who need all the help they can receive. Thank you!
