Solidarity 21: Siksika & Stoney Flood

The people of Siksika Nation
and Stoney Nation are, "in an almost total state of destruction," according to Treaty
7 Grand Chief Charles Weaselhead. June 21, 2013 was supposed to be National
Aboriginal Day, a time to honour the First Peoples of Canada however, the
people of these nations were instead fleeing their homes or preparing for the raging
waters to hit their communities.
The devastating Southern Alberta Floods resulted in close to 2,000 people leaving their homes in these communities many of which have been ruined beyond repair. The catastrophic damage to homes, roads, and infrastructure will require years of rebuilding.
Adding insult to injury, the media and governments were very slow to acknowledge the devastation at a time when Aboriginal people should have been honoured. These rich, diverse communities and people have given so much to us its time to give back!
Here's how:
1. Honour these strong Nations by showing your solidarity with a contribution of $21 (a symbolic acknowledgement of national Aboriginal day on June 21) to help fund the wide spread relief efforts.
2. Along with your donation we ask that you share a personal reflection, story, memory, or image on this wall that honours the dignity, courage and rich contributions that Aboriginal people have given you or your community.
Help to honour these communities and the other strong Aboriginal communities at the backbone of this country through your financial contribution and personal reflection.
