Help those affected by Sri Lankan tragedy

I’m devastated by today’s tragedy in Sri Lanka, so far 207 people have been reported to have lost their lives with 450 still in hospital.

Last week after the tragedy of Notre Dame, there was a huge outpouring of grief and the response was incredible to see. So much money pledged to help rebuild the beautiful part of history, which is wonderful. Today I see nothing for these victims and their families. What kind of a world do we live in when buildings mean more than human beings?

On Easter Sunday, a day of celebration for the Christian faith, 3 churches were attacked. There were 3 more blasts in 3 large hotels in Colombo followed by 2 more later in the day. A cruel and calculated attack on innocent lives.

Sri Lanka is a beautiful country filled with beautiful peaceful people. In recent years I spent time out there as a volunteer with Projects Abroad at a government maternity unit not far from Colombo and also have friends out there that I know from my previous career at HSBC. I feel I can’t just sit here and not attempt to do something to help show solidarity and support. With the help of Projects Abroad Foundation, these funds will be distributed in Sri Lanka to those who need it. All funds raised will be for the victims and their families.

I cannot imagine the devastation this has left behind so if we can make even a small difference to that, by taking even a small amount of strain off for families, that would be a good thing.
