Recently my sister, Kaet, has been diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer at the age of 27. It has been a fast and unpredictable ride, as it seems each week more and new procedures are becoming necessary. Although her prognosis is good, the harsh effects of chemotherapy may prohibit her from having children in the future.
So far we have been able to raise enough money for Kaet and her husband of three years, Brian, to peruse an "Egg Rescue" procedure which will harvest and freeze her eggs as embryos!! Although chemotherapy is great for fighting cancer, it also can cause infertility, so this is an important procedure for them. Being able to raise this much money is an amazing feat and they are overcome with gratitude.
Unfortunately, Kaet and her husband are both freelancers, so they do not have health insurance or paid sick leave. We have decided to keep this page open and up the goal as needed. They will be in need of more financial assistance once the chemo starts, as one/both of them won't be able to work fulltime. Other things like wigs, cabs to/from treatment, more tests and such may be necessary as well.
Thank you so much and so far we have been able to fund the following:
-lab fees/generic tests $2,000
-egg retrieval/embryo freezing $6,000
- anesthesia $500
- cyro storage for embryos until they can try for a baby (4-5 years since Kaet will be on post chemo drugs for a while). $1,500
