Help Me Get Back on the Road to Freedom

Namaste, friends. My name is Jan, and I’m reaching out with a humble heart and a big ask: I need help getting a car.

My beloved vehicle carried my two children and me safely through life for 15 years. It was sturdy and faithful—getting us to school, therapy, visits to loved ones, and the quiet adventures of everyday living. That car made it to 325,000 miles before finally giving up the ghost. In its last 100,000 miles, it was driven by my former partner, who promised to fix it… then promised to replace it… and instead left—with one of my former students—to start a new life.

Since then, I’ve been doing my best to rebuild. Ten years ago, I survived a massive hemorrhagic stroke—a brain bleed that left me disabled and but able to drive. I live in a deeply rural area with sporadic public transportation, of which I can’t get up the steps. Most days I’m housebound. Groceries come from Walmart deliveries, and I’m deeply grateful for my daughter-in-law, who has taken me to physical therapy and the rare doctor’s appointment. But I miss living.

I have the strength and clarity to begin working again. I’m a substitute teacher, a NLP and EC certified trauma-informed coach, and a Breathwork Facilitator. My greatest joy is helping other stroke survivors and their families learn how to reconnect, communicate, and heal. But to do this work locally—to do any work—I need wheels.

I’m not asking for anything fancy. Just a safe, reliable, used vehicle that can get me to the schools I sub at, to stroke survivors’ homes, to coaching sessions, and—most importantly—to visit my 82-year-old mother, my daughter, and my beautiful grandson.

Your help will give me back the freedom to serve others, care for my family, and reclaim my independence. I know what it’s like to fall. And I know what it means to rise again—with help.
