Educate the Tibetan Children of Tsum

Donation protected
(Due to the $2300 received in check donations, the fundraising goal for this page was reduced to $700, but any excess funds will be PUT TOWARDS HIRING ANOTHER TEACHER so additional donations are most welcome.)

As we celebrate our first year of marriage, we have much to be grateful for, especially our community of family and friends scattered across the globe. To mark our first wedding anniversary, we continue a tradition of giving that we hope will always be a part of our lives together. Over the years, we've contributed to the education of orphaned and disadvantaged children in Nepal through donations to and fundraising for the Buddhist Child Home and Little Sisters Fund.

This year we will be supporting the education of young Tibetan children who live in the Tsum Valley, a region of Nepal where the population is ethnically Tibetan.

Tashi School in Tsum Valley

Providing education to these children is the primary passion and aim of Geshe Ngawang, a Tibetan monk who currently lives in Kathmandu but is from the Tsum Valley. The parents of Tsum Valley have requested Geshe Ngawang to find teachers who can provide Tibetan language and culture education, so their children can grow up with a strong connection to their cultural heritage and able to speak the language of their parents and their ancestors. The Tsum Valley communities, including the schools, are neglected by the government of Nepal because of the remote location and the population's "non-native" Tibetan ethnicity.

For the past few years, Geshe Ngawang has raised funds to hire four teachers to serve the educational needs of about 60 children living in villages that are spread out across the valley. Due to a shortage of funds for this next school year, we have committed to helping him raise enough money to hire at least two teachers. Each teacher is paid an annual salary of $2000 (minimum funds required for 2 teachers = $4000). We will be donating $1000 and hope to raise the additional $3000 from our family and friends. Thank you in advance for your support (any amount will make a difference), and let us know if you'd be interested in making a trip to the Tsum Valley to visit the kids we are supporting!

Love,
Nina & Lobsang

PS: Since we do not have a formal nonprofit organization in place, your donation will not be tax deductible, but we will ensure it is delivered in full to Geshe Ngawang to support teacher salaries for this coming school year.
