3D Printed Face Shields for UK Medical Workers

The Issue:
Healthcare workers have a serious lack of PPE equipment in the fight against COVID-19. Doctors are taking things into their own hands to protect themselves! 3D People have already been asked by many healthcare professionals to produce these items. Most of these workers are willing to pay for them out of their own pocket. In order to help those on the front line, we have started this fundraiser to help cover the costs of producing and distributing the items to those in need. The face shields will be donated to doctors, nurses and hospitals via our network in partnership with Covid19 volunteers uk slack group.
Who we are:
3D People is a large 3D printing bureau usually working with the automotive, engineering and consumer products industries. We have an opportunity to completely retool our factory to produce 1000s of these items every week. Our quality control systems already in place make it easy for us to make the PPE to a high standard.
Where does the money go?
It costs us £5 to produce one of these items including the laser cut plastic, 3d printing and distribution. If we manage to make these items for less, the proceeds will go towards producing more units. Therefore we are asking for £10,000 to help us make 2000+ face shields in the coming weeks. We will produce more if more funds are raised.
The funds donated will be used to produce, assemble and distribute as many face shields as possible to the UK. The goal is to donate as many 3D Face Shields as we can produce to health care workers. Any additional funds will be donated to charities assisting health care workers. We (3D People ) are not making any profits from the endeavour.
How are 3D People manufacturing the face shields?
We have 3D printers set up for 24/7 production in our London based 3D Printing factory. By following strict instructions for clean production we make sure that every plastic component is disinfected before distribution.
How are 3D People distributing the face shields?
We have partnered with the Covid19 volunteers uk and are part of the manufacturing network producing the face masks. They have set up regional distribution hubs to deliver the face shields to the those in need.
