3D Printed and Laser Cut Face Shields for COVID-19

Donation protected
Our Makerspace, Makers Workshop in Maynard, MA, has the capacity to handle small scale manufacturing. In the current pandemic this is an asset we can lend to our community. Because of this we have worked long and hard through various PPE concepts and designs to figure out how we can do the most good with what we have.

We are making FACE SHIELDS. This design uses minimal 3D filament, and can be printed faster than other open source PPE designs that have been circulating. The headband is reusable and this design has been specifically approved of, and asked for by Emerson Hospital; they requested “…as many as we can make.”

Challenge accepted.

We have access through one of Makers Workshop’s members to a large quantity of Petg, the clear shield component of these visors. We can cut 1 shield in about 20-40 seconds on our laser cutters, and we currently have a very large quantity of this raw material, enough to produce thousands. However, the 3D printed head pieces takes 5-7 Hours to print 2.

The Makers Workshop community is 3D Printing as many of the head bands as we can. Our printers and running nonstop, our member's printers are running nonstop, and friends in our extended network are also making as many as they can throughout the country.

However, we still COULD be producing completed shields much more quickly, potentially hundreds per day, and we have started receiving requests from more hospitals daily.

...so we NEED YOUR HELP.

Money raised here will go towards:
-Shipping costs to get 3D Printed Parts to Us for Assembly
-The Cost of Materials including filament and elastic, some of which are in short demand which is causing inflated prices.
... and other costs of business related directly to facilitating this project.

We are setting a low goal, but the more that we raise, the quicker we can produce for our hospitals, and the more we can produce.  We will be posting regular updates on our progress in our instagram stores so if you are interested follow along with  @MakersWorkshopLLC .

ALSO,

If you have a 3D printer and are able to join the team printing parts (THE MORE THE MERRIER), please email [email redacted] to get the file and coordinate getting the parts to us so that we can assemble and deliver to Emerson Hospital, Acton Medical, and our growing list of organizations requesting them.  Feel free to email with any questions as well.

Thank you in advance. We can do this.
