So as most of you have probably heard, the LuuIntyres are expecting, and we are thrilled out of our minds!!!! It has been a long journey, and after a year of struggling with infertility, we will finally be expecting a new addition in late November. Squee! We've also recently made the move to Houston, TX so that we can be closer to Cait's family, and live somewhere where a lower cost of living can make possible having more time with our little and each other, instead of co-workers and strangers. Upon our arrival, we met with a lawyer regarding a second-parent adoption for Jennifer so that she could have full parental custody and equal status in the eyes of the law. We got some good news and some bad news. The good news is that it seems like Texas accidentally left a loophole that makes queer people adopting their own children that they made together possible (hooray!). And the bad news is that it will cost us an incredible amount of money. With court fees, lawyer fees, updated wills, a home study (you know, to make sure we're fit to care for our own baby), etc, the grand total will be pretty close to $6,000.00. Ouch. Despite our careful saving for the last few years, this cost, combined with our recent moving fees, and the cost of our amazing midwife, puts us with pretty much no money once this little bundle of joy is born--which is pretty scary. We would so appreciate any amount you could spare that would help to soften the financial blow of something that is really, really important to the safety and security of our family. You're the best.
