I'm reaching out for help for my 35 year old brother who is currently fading due to Huntingtons Disease. Huntingtons is described as having ALS, Parkinson's and Alzheimer stimulutaniously. Huntingtons is a inherited disorder that results in death of the brain cells. Symptoms start with mood and mental ability, memory loss, lack of coordination and eventually loss of ability to walk, speak and eat. My brother and I were adopted off at the age of 2 and 3 for reasons we couldn't understand at a young age. Now that we're older and learned of this ugly disease and why our mother couldn't care for us. At the age of 24 I started to notice symptoms in my brother so we decided to get tested together. I was negative but sadly he was positive. Over the next 10 years I've seen my brothers ability to remember, walk, talk and function as a normal adult deteriorate. Eventually he will become bed ridden and fed with a feeding tube. Life span is typically 15-20 years after onset. My brother is coming into the late stage of IT where walking, talking and eating are becoming a major risk. He recently just fell and received 15 staples to his head. Due to lack of knowledge on huntingtons we face uphill battles every day. Most nursing homes refuse him due to age or the fact he has Huntingtons . Any good Insurance won't cover him due to it being pre existing and state insurance only covers the bare minimum. His disability goes to nursing home stay and he's left with $30 dollars at the end of each month. I'm asking to please help me fund this wonderful Chair designed especially for huntingtons patients. It's called the Atlanta Safe Chair. It will help control is involuntary movements and confide him safely and comfortably. Any small donation will be appreciated more than words can express.
