Help us rebuild

Hi all - we are the Doyles, a family of 5 in Maplewood NJ that was completely devastated by Hurricane Ida Wednesday night, as it swept through the area. We are the kind of people who hate asking for help in situations like this, but this is more than we can handle on our own. 

On Sept 1, around 8:00 or so, Hurricane Ida caused flash floods on our street that left our house surrounded by several feet of water. Within 30 minutes, we had 6 feet of water enter our basement through every window, crack and crevice it could find. Insurance is going to take weeks to finalize and we did not have flood insurance. We do not have any idea at this point what level of help insurance will provide but face daunting clean up costs.

Washer, dryer, hot water heater, boiler and other appliances …all destroyed, along with generations of personal effects that are irreplaceable. We are currently trying to clean the basement out and do demolition work before mold sets in. The job is immense and while we thought we could handle it ourselves with a little elbow grease, we’re realizing it’ll take weeks without some professional help. These up front costs are more than we can afford right now. 

Our three kids are just starting new schools in a week and we are concerned about the disruption this is going to cause to their lives. We need to get these repairs tackled as soon as possible so they have clean clothes and hot water to bathe in and to help us get some peace of mind after a very scary night. Any help you can provide would be most appreciated.
