We are the women of Kawaihae Canoe Club, who have also been known as the "Bikini Crew". Our crew began paddling together in 2010 as a very tight knit team bonded by friendship, dedication to each other and passion for the sport. Over the last three years we have worked hard in our training and in building a solid program for other like-minded paddlers to be a part of.
We have been training in the toughest conditions to prepare ourselves for the the final race of the season, Na Wahine O Ke Kai, a 42 mile channel race from Moloka'i to O'ahu. This is the premier event in the sport of women's outrigger canoe racing. Last year we finished 6th overall (5th in our division) in this incredible race, which was the ultimate test of our teamwork and endurance. This year our goal is to finish Top 3 in this world championship canoe race.
There are many costs involved in making our "DREAM a REALITY" "“ starting from training to the actual event. In order to participate in this race, we must come up with approximately $8,000. With your generosity we feel that we will be able to represent you, our community and Hawaii Island proudly in this international race.
