Help Jerry Walk Again with Stem Cells

Donation protected
In 1993 at the age of 21, Jerry Augustine was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Although Jerry had been experiencing mild symptoms for several years, the diagnosis came as a shock.

Jerry was the lead guitarist / singer of his own rock band. He was a long-haul transport truck driver who travelled throughout Canada, U.S., and even Mexico. Jerry enjoyed playing guitar, playing golf, and interacting with friends. Jerry never thought this disease would catch up to him, and like many of us, took his active lifestyle for granted. He eventually lost his job as a transport truck driver because of the Multiple Sclerosis. He worked in the woods cutting wood and considered it the best job he ever had. He continued to work until it was no longer safe for him to work with a chainsaw.

Multiple Sclerosis is a degenerative neurological disease that affects the central nervous system. It impedes signals sent to muscles and limbs. Over time, Jerry gradually lost the ability to walk. He has been confined to a wheelchair since 2000. His vision in his left eye has also been impaired from the disease. He has lost complete function of his left arm and hand. He is unable to void his bladder voluntarily and must self-catheterize several times a day. He needs constant care by others to help him with daily activities.

Jerry is engaged and he and his fiancé have three sons aged 13, 18 and 20. Jerry dreams of playing golf again, playing guitar and playing catch with his sons.

In 2010, we fundraised and were able to send Jerry to Poland to receive the breakthrough Liberation Treatment. He suffered from tremors in his right hand and throughout his body. The treatment was successful in stopping the progression of his disease. It also stopped his tremors and increased his energy to levels he had not seen in years.

Now that the progression has been stopped, we have hoped Jerry's neurological damage can be repaired so that he may regain function and improve his quality of life. We believe this is now possible through stem cell treatment that is now being offered. The proposed treatment is being performed in India with great success.

The cost of the treatment is $20,000 plus airfare. Airfare for Jerry and a travel assistant is roughly $5,000. Information about the treatment can be found at http://www.ccsviclinic.ca
His appointment can be scheduled as soon as we raise enough to pay a deposit.

Stem cell treatment is the miracle we have been waiting for. We are hopeful and believe this treatment will greatly improve Jerry's quality of life. We don't think a price tag can be given to this.
