My name is Mari Kempes and I will be attending the Harold Ramis Film School with the Second City this fall. It is a year-long program in Chicago that focuses on comedy.
I have worked in the film, television, and theater industry for the past 7 years and am looking to cultivate my skills as a writer and director. I have seen the ability comedy has as a unifying and disarming force and would like to use my gifts of empathy and observation to lend a voice to individuals and stories that might not otherwise be heard. Good stories bring us together, open hearts, and soften prejudice. I believe in my ability as a storyteller and want to put it to use for the greater good, one fart joke at a time.
While the Second Street in Chicago is a well known comedic dynasty, the Howard Ramis Film School is a young program. This fall will mark its second year. The program does not qualify for financial aid or educational loans. I will work as much as I can, but it is a full-time program so there will be time for only a part time job. I feel really lucky to have so many friends and family already showing emotional support in this endeavor, it is truly needed! Any financial assistance that you can spare would also be greatly appreciated.
As a small token of my appreciation, I would like to offer some gifts for certain donations. My lovely and talented family has offered up some of their time and goods as well, such as a tour with my mom or an Astrobiology Q&A with my scientist brother. Also listed below are some links to some of my previous work and projects.

Spend an hour with my sensational big brother and MIT Phd Chris Kempes. Physics, mathematics, the possibility of life on other planets, what’s the dumbest thing he’s ever seen me do? Maybe you want to learn what Astrobiologists study, or have children or grandchildren that want to know how a career in science can be creative and fun, or you just want to quench your thirst for cutting edge science with Chris. One hour, his brain, your enrichment. Grab a cup of coffee with him in Santa Fe, or talk with him on the phone. He is a pretty busy guy and has agreed to do this twice, so this goes to the first 2 people to donate $300.
$400.00- Ladies of the Canyons Museum tour with Lesley Poling-Kempes.
You and 3 friends can spend an afternoon, or morning, with author extraordinaire and mother fair on a personal tour of the Ghost Ranch Museum exhibit based on her book “Ladies of the Canyons.”
