Surgery and Recovery Expenses
Who
Hello, my name is Deonte Thompson and I’m a 22 year old full time student living in Las Vegas. I started this gofundme in attempt to help with the expenses of
surgery and recovery. I had my first spine surgery at the age of 19, and just had my second, but bigger spine surgery in September of this year.
What
When I was 19 I had my first spine surgery to help correct, scoliosis, spinal
stenosis, and sciatic nerve damage. This recent spine surgery was much bigger
and far more invasive than the last. The surgery I got in this September was help with my degenerative disc disease. This surgery was an L3/L4 Total Disc
Replacement, L4/L5 anterior interbody fusion, and an L5/S1 posterior fusion. In
terms of my spine, I haven't had the most luck with genetics, but we all have to
play the hand we were dealt in life and make the most of it.
(Results of 2nd surgery)
How
The goals with this gofundme are to help with the cost from surgery and during
recovery over the next few months towards mid December, the expected
recovery time. The money is to go towards expenses such as, medical bills,
medications, and physical therapy after losing insurance this month. The physical therapy is the primary goal for me, I believe it is one of the big parts of recovering from a surgery since it helps strengthen and rehabilitate my body. The longest
most difficult part to me is, getting back to being able to do daily tasks
independently, proper, and without pain.
Medication (ranges $60-100 no insurance)
Physical therapy ($120/session no insurance)
Why
The reason for starting this so late and after my surgery is, because I was
informed this week I will be losing all work benefits/health insurance this month. I was denied claims for disability, did not qualify for Family and Medical Leave Act as I moved back to Las Vegas this year and have not been back to work long
enough here, and I do not have short term disability. I have been out of work since the start of September and wont be able to return to work until mid December.
Finding this out and seeing how expensive everything is and stacking up to be, I
created this in hopes of getting any assistance in this. Ultimately I know during
these times life is a lot harder for most people, myself included, but anybody who
is able to help without affecting themselves is appreciated a whole lot for helping me out during these hard times.
Any, and all donations are very much appreciated. If you also do not mind helping spread the word it is also very much appreciated.
Thank you for stopping by, reading, and/or donating.
