Hello world! My name is Patric Nguyen. I am a sophomore from Metamora Township High School. It is located near Central Illinois. A little information about me is that I plan to be a cardiac surgeon for my career. I am the captain for my high school's speech team. I also work at my local pool. I give swimming lessons to kids that are from 4 years old to 8 years old and I work front desk.

I just came back from HOBY. HOBY stands for Hugh O'Brian Youth Leadership. It is a leadership seminar. However, it isn't anything like the others. HOBY changed my life. I feel as if I'm a new person. I am an introverted person. It's not that I'm shy or anti-social, it's because I look at things at a different perspective. I talk when I feel the need to voice my opinion, although often times enough, my opinion gets drowned out. HOBY taught me how to voice my opinions the correct way. There are also some other important things as well. I learned how to start a movement, fund raise, get ideas out, and the true meaning of leadership. It isn't always the person who has the title, or the person who rallies up people. It can also be the quiet ones. They are usually the thinkers, since they spend more time listening, than talking. It is also the first person to join that one crazy dude dancing in the middle of a gathering. That person who joined will start to attract some people, then everyone starts joining in, and a crowd is formed. There is just so many things I learned that will help me for my future.

Nevertheless, it doesn't end there. There is another seminar that branches from HOBY called the World Leadership Congress. It is just like HOBY, except it is even better. Over 400 students from 20 different countries come together for 9 days to become leaders for tomorrow. Since HOBY changed me, I think WLC will make me into someone who can truly lead. I have not been to WLC, since it is during July 20th-29th. I do want to go, though. The only thing that is stopping me is the money. The cost is $1,650 to go. HOBY and WLC aren't for individual people. It is for the community they are from. For example, when I was at HOBY, we were called ambassadors, because we represent our school, our community, our families, and ourselves. This is a lot to ask for, since I have trouble asking people for money. But, I think my life will really benefit from this experience. Any amount of donations will help. This is a one-time opportunity for me, since only sophomores are allowed to attend. After I become a junior, my window will close.

The deadline is the end of June. I know that is a short time to raise the money, but I truly believe with the help of everyone, I will reach my goal. I want to help other people too. I know some people are tight with money, like me, but they are true leaders from their HOBY local seminar. So, all the donations that are received after my goal is met will go to my local HOBY organization to help send ambassadors to WLC in the future. I want to help people attend WLC, or at least make it easier for them.

Thank you for reading this. I appreciate your time.
