Hi, My name is Allison and I have stage 4 Metastatic Malignant Melanoma (skin cancer)for anyone who does not know. I loved going to the river and having fun in the sun kayaking, tubing or even just swimming with my friends. I worked at Schlitterbahn for 4 summers, I was a sun worshiper, but now everything is different. I cant go in the sun for an extended amount of time, its hard for me to work because im exhausted from the medicine I was on. In the beinging I started with about 30 tumors ranging from all sizes and places in the body. At the end of October as far as I knew I only had about 4-6 tumors in my body left. In November is where everything changed! I went for my 6 months scans (on my birthday no less) and I was very hopeful bc I had gotten nothing but great results with this clinical triaL Well because of the thanksgiving holiday I had to wait for the results of my scans which totally didnt sit well but well!! That next week I got the results that's stunned me, 2 possibly 3 brain tumors and only 2 tumors in the body...JUST MY LUCK!!! I didn't tell many people my news bc I didn't know what to say or what to do...I had no results and no plan of action, so y worrY people for no reason and stress everyone out that doesn't need to b stressed out...in December I went back for more scans and it showed that the tumors had grown but not a lot...they still wanted to keep watching the growth of them before they took me off the clinical trial I had been on since June 13th... for the last month I had been feeling really sick from the flu, earaches, ringing in the ears dizziness, fatigue, constant nausea and vomitting and sudden arm numbness and involunterrary movement which really worried me bc it was affecting me randomly dropping stuff and just feeling weird!!! At about 3am on Jan 23 I had enough and I couldn't sleep my arm was going crazy and it felt like seizures...I was alone and very nervous about what was happening so I half way pack up my stuff with one arm, throwing my bag down the stairs bc I couldnt feel my arm. Then bc i still don't know Houston I had to try to gps myself to the hospital which sucked bc I was scared...and then I get to the hospital, they tell me that it looks like I'm having seizures...luckily I had already had my scans done the day b4 they already had the results and then proceeded to tell! Me I not only had to 3 tumors but 6 tumors, and that then wanted to admit me for observation...I went to my doctor appt b4 I decided to let them admit me...luckily I did but and that's when they told me that instead of ghama knife which is localized radiation to the brain they will need to do full brain radiation...BIG SHOCKER!!! So this is where I'm at right now!!! They told me I was going to loose my hair so I died my hair pink and purple with a lil blonde!!! It's my hair, it's my terms!!! Thank you for all ur support and generosity! And contributions to my funds...I won't be able to work or drive for a very long time bc I'm on anti-seizure mess and pain meds!!!
Update: June 19: So for the last 6 months the doctors have been watching my brain and unfortunately the tumors are still growing, the biggest tumor is almost 2cm and the IPi immunotherapy that I have been on helped a little but I just got a lil bad news, I have 2 new pretty good size tumors under my right arm and in my right breast. So we have to treat the tumors in my brain first! So on Monday we r going to do gamma knife which is targeted radiation that is suppose to zap the tumors away, hopefully!!! So after gamma knife I have to wait a month to have more scans done and then we can decide which option we can do next...if all 6 brain tumors are stable then they will put me on another clinical trial pd-1(don't know much about it but I have heard good things about it) if not surgery to remove the tumors!!! The options r pretty good n the doctors r very confident that they will get it this time. It's hard but I am keeping the faith!!! Thank you for ur help!!! :) :)
